Dennis enlisted on 4th October 1915, he was 19 years old. He joined "S" Coy at Sheffield on 7th October 1915. He was then posted to the 5th Northern General Hospital at Leicester on 16th October 1915 but returned to "S" Coy at Sheffield on 17th January 1916. On 1st May, he embarked on the SS Lydia at Southampton as part of O. C. Reinforcements and disembarked at Rouen, entering the war in France on 2nd May 1916. He was posted to serve with No 12 General Hospital, in the field. On 12th December 1916 he was transferred to No. 39 General Hospital at Le Havre but was transferred to Base Details in Rouen on 8th December 1917 and posted to the 69th Field Ambulance in Italy. On 5th January 1918 was transferred to serve with the 138th Field Ambulance, and returned with the unit to France on 7th March 1918. He was killed whilst serving with this unit. Dennis was the son of Lawrence and Harriet Elizabeth Sullivan of 81 Goldsmith Street, Nottingham. [Information researched and kindly provided by Chris Ludlam]
