Benjamin came to England when he was 12 years old. He was educated at Prior Park College, Bath; at the School of Medicine at Owen’s College, Manchester, and at Edinburgh - taking the triple qualifications in 1896. He spent many years in practice at Southend-on-Sea, until he retired. In April 1915 he resumed his professional work by joining the R.A.M.C. He obtained a commission, then went overseas in August 1915, first serving in Malta and then afterwards to Salonika - arriving on 2nd July 1917. He was invalided back to the UK in April 1918. His died in the Manor War Hospital, Epsom. Benjamin was the eldest son of H H Leigh of Piura, Peru.
