Other Information:Joseph worked at the local pit as a miner before the war,. He along with his collegues were in the St John's Ambulance Brigade in their spare time. According to Joseph's wife, a recruiting sergeant came to the hut where the men were doing bandaging etc. and persuaded them all to do their duty and enlist. Joseph died of cholera. He was the husband of Hannah Kaye of High Common, Barlborough, Chesterfield. Derbyshire and the father of 3 young boys, age 6 to 9. [Information and portrait photograph kindly provided by family].
