Robert was gassed three times when in France but continued to serve, he left France for Italy and was in Italy at the time of the Armistice. It was the after-effects of the gas, however, that caused his death. Robert was buried with full military honours - his coffin covered with the Union Jack, bourne on a gun carriage, with Bearers, firing party and a trumpeter. He was the husband of Daisy Valentina King of 29 St Matthews Church Lane, Ipswich. [Information and photograph kindly provided by Robert's great granddaughter, Andrea]
