John used the name of 'Albert' possibly as his father was also a John (the name given on his gravestone in Adwick le Street Cemetery is Albert Grainger). He lived at 37 North Road, Woodlands, Doncaster. In 1911 he was a surveyors assistant in a coal mine. Albert was the son of John George Grainger and Frances Ellen Grainger.
