Alfred also served as Medical Officer with the British Red Cross, and entered the war in France on 29th April 1915. He gain promotion from temporary Major to temporary Lieutenant Colonel in the R.A.M.C. whilst in command of a Stationary Hospital from 1st October 1916, but relinquished his commission on 3rd July 1917 on account of ill-heath. Alfred was the husband of E Marian Carter of 52 Bath Street, Abingdon.
