George was originally posted to the 9th Lincolns, a training battalion as shown by his number with the 9 prefix, he was then posted to the 8th Battalion joining them on the 12th May 1916. George has a casualty number 950 and was reported missing on the 18th November 1916, he was struck off the strengh of the 8th Battalion on the 6/1/1917, authority for this was PO Part ii orders No 1, dated 6th January 1917.
