Patrick’s occupation was a labourer. He was a married man, who was 6 ft, 1 inch in height. He had previously served for one year with the Royal Army Medical Corps and lived at 9 Queen Street West, Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland. Patrick applied to join the police force on 12th July 1911. He was appointed by South Shields Borough Police on 25th July 1911, he was 24 years and 3 months of age. On the 4th August 1914, Patrick was recalled to rejoin his regiment. He arrived in Boulogne on the 14th August, and in an article in the Police review on December 4th, he states he has been moved about all over the country and has eaten ‘bully beef and biscuits’ at Amiens, Busigney, Meritz, Rouen, St Quentin and Paris. On the 4th February 1919, Patrick returned to police service and after a medical was re-appointed on the 6th. He continued to serve until he retired on pension on the 28th July 1937.
