Coverdale’s occupation was a groom and gardener. He was 5 Ft, 10 1/2 inches tall and a married man. Coverdale was appointed by Durham County Constabulary on 1st December 1908 as PC 730, 3rd class constable. On the 15th February 1909 he was stationed at Jarrow and was promoted on the 1st July 1909 to a 2nd class PC, and then on the 1st December 1910 to a 1st call PC, after being transfered to Houghton in March the same year. On the 14th July 1915, Coverdale resigned to join HMF and enlisted into the RAMC, he entered France on the 3rd October 1915. He was re-admitted as 8 years, 1st class PC 730 and was stationed at Houghton, a post he held until 8th July 1925 when he went to Jarrow, and then to Seaham Harbour on the 10th December 1931, Coverdale was awarded the Kings Silver Medal on 6th May 1935. He went on sick leave from the 19th March to the 14th June 1936 suffering from bronchitis. He became ill again on 13th July 1936 and died in service on the 20th July 1936 from the above ailment.
