George was appointed by Durham County Constabulary on 25th February 1915 as PC 825, 3rd class constable, and was stationed at Chester le Street. He was living at Binchester when he was appointed. On the 1st October 1915, George resigned to join HMF and enlisted with the RAMC. It is documented that on the 15th February 1916, he was on hospital service at Sheffield. On the 3rd March 1919, George was re-admitted as 2nd class PC 736 and stationed again at Chester le Street. He resigned due to ill health on the 7th August 1919. In September 1919 it was requested that rateable deductions be re-turned, granted by the CC and he received £3.2s.0d. [Information researched and provided by John Grainger]
