John enlisted on 7th December 1915. He was 29 years and 4 months old; a Labourer by trade; and was living at 12 Pendle Street, Sabden at the time. He was put on Army Reserve until 3rd April 1917, when he was mobilized and stationed in the UK up until 28th June 1917. From 29th June to 15th July 1917, he was en-route to Salonika, joining to British Salonika Force on the 30th. He remained there until 16th December 1919. Returning to the UK on 29th December 1919, he was finally discharged from HM Forces and transferred to Class Z on 26th January 1920. John was the husband of Elizabeth Abbott.
