Other Information:

John was pre-allocated to serve with the 1st Field Ambulance in the event of a war, and joined them after war was declared. On 12th August 1914 he was promoted from Quartermaster Serjeant to Serjeant Major, but left the 1st Field Ambulance on the 14th, after orders were received for the unit to send one of their Warrant Officers to serve with No 2 Clearing Hospital. He entered the war in France on 18th August 1914. John gained his commission on 13th April 1915.
