Other Information:James enlisted on 24th April 1915. He was 42 years and 273 days old, and was a Commercial Traveller by trade. On 5th May 1915 he was posted to serve with the 90th Field Ambulance, but transferred shortly after to the 141st Field Ambulance. On 9th August 1915 he gained promotion to the rank of Corporal, then embarked with the unit on 10th August 1915 at Southampton, disembarking at Rouen the following day, he entering the war in France on 11th August 1915. On 13th December 1915 he was appointed the rank of acting Serjeant, with pay. He was granted 9 days leave, from 28th January to 5th February 1916, then shortly after, on 23rd June, he was admitted into the hospital of his unit suffering with Myocarditis. He was evacuated back to the West Riding Casualty Clearing Station, via No 2 Motor Ambulance Convoy, where he was admitted until the 29th June, when he was evacuated to No 22 General Hospital, via No 16 Ambulance Train. He was evacuated again on the 2nd July 1916 to England, via the Hospital Ship 'Brighton'. His rank reverted back to Corporal as soon as he was admitted. He was discharged "no longer physically fit for war service" on 21st September 1916.
