Other Information:

Vernon enlisted on 28th November 1915. He was 26 years and 25 days old, was single, and a cloth looker in a cotton mill (inspector of finished woven cloth) by trade. He joined the R.A.M.C. in Belfast the following day, where it appears he served in the Military Hospital. A Medical Report (dated 18th December 1918) in his Pension Records states; "Patient states that he has had acute rheumatism twice – 9 years ago and the following year. He has had good heath since. Enlisted 28/11/1915 and was in training and following his duties in Ireland until October 1916. After 5 weeks in Aldershot he was sent to France 06/10/1916. On joining his unit (10th Fd. Amb.) he was examined by Commanding Officer of unit and was immediately down the line to Etaples and after treatment for 8 days was sent to the Military Hospital at Whalley where he was admitted 26/11/1916. On admission his general heath was good. Examination of heart revealed an aortic diastolic murmur over whole of sternum". It was concluded in the Report that he was unfit to perform the duties of a soldier, and was discharged from hospital on the 29th December 1916. He was discharged sick ‘no longer fit for war service’ from the Army on 11th January 1917. He was the son of Arthur and Jane Mallinson. Arthur died in 1897 and Jane remarried a Henry Haworth.
