Frank enlisted on 28th February 1914. He was 20 years old, and was a Fitter by trade. He entered the war in France on 16th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the Army Troop Train. He was serving in England from 25th June 1916 but returned to the Western Front on 27th January 1917. On 26th March 1918, whilst serving with No 5 Casualty Clearing Station, he began complaining of back pain after handling a very heavy box containing X Ray material. He was ordered to report sick. He was discharged "no longer physically fit for war service" on 27th March 1919, suffering with Neurasthenia. He was the son of John Henry and Mary Ann Laycock of 11 South Street, Coventry.
