Walter Harold Overson's birth was registered in the March quarter of 1896, at Oswestry Registration District.
His parents were Frederick William H Overson, born c. 1860 Congham, Norfolk, and Mary Elizabeth nee Williams, born c. 1863, Morton, Shropshire. They married in 1884 in King's Lynn Reg. Dist.

The 1901 census has him born Sweeney, near Oswestry, living with his 10 siblings and parents at Gledrid, Weston Rhyn.

The 1911 census shows him as Harold, born at Swiney, the local pronunciation, as a Servant of Enoch Davies at Chirk Bank.
His parents were at Gledrid Cottage, Chirk, Ruabon, and all 16 of their children were still alive.
