Albert was living at 19 Melville Road Maidstone and worked as a blacksmith at Fremlins brewery. He enlisted with the 1st Home Counties Field Ambulance T.F. on the 10th February 1915. He departed for France on the 23rd January 1917 and arrived at Le Havre on the 24th January 1917 and served as a stretcher bearer with the 2/1st Home Counties Field Ambulance. He was badly mustard gassed on 17th April 1917 at Villers Brettoneux near Amiens and was sent to the 55 Casualty Clearing Station, and then sent to the Fulham Hospital in England with effects of gas poisoning.
