He was an excellent cricketer and played wicket-keeper batsman for Suffolk. His brother, Frances, also served in WWI (Sherwood Foresters), and later married and had one daughter. Eddie's sister, Agnes, married an Australian soldier, Reginald Haddock, in 1919 and went with him when he returned to Australia.
