Pte Arthur Edward Smith is my 2xGreat Uncle. He was born in 1892 in Stanley Ferry, Wakefield and worked before the war as a Colliery Pony Driver. His father Arthur Smith was a Colliery Corporal. His mother was called Emma Evans before her marriage to Arthur, and they were living in Castleford at the time of Arthur Edward's death at the Battle of Nabi Samweil. His Sister Nellie Smith (my Great-Grandmother) married George Hutchinson (my Great-Grandfather), a Colliery Hewer. In 1918 their son (my Grandfather) Arthur Edward Hutchinson, a Copper Worker and WW2 Fireman, was born and named after his uncle.
