On July 18, 2011, Dr Loftus was awarded a Purple Heart Medal by the United States Army for wounds received as the result of hostile actions in April 1918 while he was serving with the 49th West Riding Division, 1st/2nd West Riding Field Ambulance, British Expeditionary Force. A copy of the U.S. Army permanant orders announcing the award is attached.
