Leeming Anderson Carr was my grandfather. He was born April 2, 1890 in Hamilton ON and died March 31, 1952 in Hamilton. He enlisted Feb. 11, 1915 in Toronto (Attestation papers on file) while a 4th year medical student at U of Toronto. The university conferred a Bachelor of Medecine upon him and several others at a special convocation on Feb. 25, 1915 just pior to them going overseas. From the U of T Roll of Service the following was available.
Left UofT in 1915 and enlisted Feb 11, 1915 in COTC as per enlistment papers on file.
Enlisted in CAMC , No. 2 Casualty Clearing Station as Lieutenant in Feb. 1915.
Transferred to RAMC as Lieutenant April 1915.
Promoted to Captain in 1916.
Stationed No. 48 Field Ambulance in Suvla Bay June 1915.
Stationed No. 54 Casualty Clearing Station in Suez Canal in 1916
Stationed No. 35 Field Ambulance in the Somme 1916 (battle took place Sept-Nov).
Stationed as Medical Officer with the 6th Yorkshire Regiment in Messines 1917.
At the outbreak of WWII, Col. Carr was given command of No. 13 General Hospital, RCAMC in Hamilton and served in England for much of the war.
He is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Hamilton On.
