Edward entered the war in France on 19th August 1914 whilst attached to the Royal Engineers. On 7th February 1918 he joined the 141st Field Ambulance for duty. He proceeded for temporary duty with the 26th Field Coy, R.E. on 16th February 1918, then returned to the 141st Field Ambulance for duty from the 23rd Field Coy, R.E. on 7th May 1918. On 7th May 1919 he proceeded to the Concentration Camp for dispersal, and was stuck off the strength of the unit.
