Gerald was educated at Wesley College and Dublin University. He was appointed to the position of Medical Officer to the West African Medical staff, Gold Coast in 1912. In 1915 he was seconded to the RAMC and entered the war in Salonika on the 22 July 1916. The address on his Medal Index Card states 128 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin. In 1919, Gerald was appointed chairman of the Pensions appeal Tribunal and in 1930 he was appointed Medical Officer of Health for County Wicklow. He was also an Irish water polo International and held the amateur record, at Foxrock Golf Club. Gerald also played rugby in the position of Centre for the TCD club, where he achieved Ireland Cap, No 315, and Irish Caps - 3 Vís E: 1908; S: 1908; W: 1908 Gerald died in Greystones, Co Wicklow, Ireland.
