Other Information:William lived in Dunston. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of divisional stretcher bearers. He organized his bearers with great skill, and went about under intense shell fire while carrying out his work, continually going forward to the aid posts to ascertain what help was required. His determination and example encouraged his men to great efforts." William was awarded the DCM Bar "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He guided a motor ambulance to a regimental aid post under heavy fire, and continually visited aid posts to see if there were casualties to clear. By his untiring energy and pluck he saved many lives."
