Other Information:Ernest enlisted on 3rd September 1917. He was 35 years and 245 days old; was a Waiter by trade; and was living at 35 South Street, Exeter at the time. He was placed on Army Reserve and then called up for active service and posted to No 19 Coy on 3rd January 1918. He was in training when on 8th March 1919 he was admitted into The Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington, suffering with pains all over his chest and head, with additional pain to his lower chest when he took deep breaths - - the diagnosis was Influenza. On the 16th he gradually got worse and died at 9.30 p.m. Ernest was the son of William and Mary Westlake of Saddlers Arms Cottage, Lympstone. C.W.G.C. have given his service number incorrectly as 27474.
