Other Information:Herbert was educated at Owen's College and qualified L.S.A., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1892. He practiced in Altrincham, Cheshire and was a medical assistant at the Manchester Hospital for Consumption. *A report stated: “The funeral took place at Whalley on Saturday of Lieutenant Ransome, one of the most popular medical men at the Whalley Military Hospital. By the express wish of the deceased, the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery attached to the institution. A service was held in the hospital church, conducted by the chaplain, (Rev. S. Tuke.) The patients, who held the late Lieutenant Ransome in very high regard, attended in large numbers, and the service was very impressive. The cortege was accompanied to the cemetery by a detachment of the R.A.M.C. under Captain Kay and a firing party composed of forty men from Preston. Colenel Robinson (Commandant) and Major Rogers (Registrar) were also present at the graveside where the last rites were performed by Mr. Tuke. The deceased officer came to Whalley from Altincham.
