Other Information:William enlisted into the Medical Staff Corps on 4th October 1894. He was 24 years and 3 months old, and was a Clerk by trade. On 12th January 1900 he was appointed Lance Corporal, and was promoted to Corporal on 1st March 1900. He then gradually rose through the ranks to Serjeant on 14th September 1904; to Staff Serjeant on 13th November 1907, and on 6th March 1911 to Quartermaster Serjeant. He saw service abroad in Bermuda, India, Antigua, St Lucia, Jamaica and Tientsin. He entered the war in France on 17th August 1914, as part of the team for the Assistant Director of Medical Services, 3rd Division. He gained he gained further promotion to the rank of Serjeant Major on 12th October 1914. On 28th May 1916, whilst serving with No 10 Stationary Hospital, he was appointed to Her Majesty's Commission at the rank of Lieutenant and Quartermaster. He lived at 17 Lavender Road, Leicester.
