Other Information:Charles qualified M.R.C.S., L.S.A. on 5th March 1881. On 29th July 1882 he took up a commission within the Medical Services at the rank of Surgeon Captain, then gained promotion to Surgeon Major on 29th July 1894. During 1897 and 1898 he served in the North-West Frontier, India. On 29th July 1902 he gained promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, then in 1911 was appointed an Esquire of the Oder of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England. He gained promotion again to the rank of Colonel on 9th September 1912, then retired two days later, on the 11th September 1912. On the outbreak of war, Charles was re-employed, and on 5th August 1914 was appointed to the War Office to examine candidates for temporary commission. For his services with the War Office he was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1917.
