Other Information:William was educated at University College and King College, London, and at Trinity College, Dublin, where he became B.A. in 1886, M.B. and B.Ch in 1887, and M.A. and M.D. in 1897. He also took the D.P.H. of the Irish College with honours in 1889. For a while, he was resident surgical assistant in the Meath Hospital, Dublin, and had become a lecturer and examiner to the St John Ambulance Association, medical officer of the Actor’s Association, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and a member of the British Medical Association. He served for many years in the militia, holding the honorary rank of major in the army from 1st April 1903. He became lieutenant colonel commanding the 6th Field Ambulance on 31st March 1913, and was also in command of the Duke of York’s headquarters school of instruction, and a member of the London Territorial Force Association. In March 1915 he went with the field ambulance to the Western Front as their commanding officer. However by the October he has become ill and was invalided back to England. William died in London but was taken back to Ireland to be buried. The interment took place on 24th January 1916. He was the son of Patrick O’Connor of Dublin.
