Thomas was educated at Ellesmere Port Schools, and then became employed as a Labourer at the Shropshire Union and Flour Mills. He joined the R.A.M.C. (T.F.) before the war and was mobilized on 4th August 1914. He was accidentally drowned whilst in training.
