Other Information:Stephen was educated at the Catholic University, Dublin and at the Royal University of Ireland, where he qualified B.A. in 1903; M.B., B.Ch and B.A.O. on 24th November 1905; M.D. in 1909 and D.P.H. in 1913. He then employed as acting resident physician of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin, as clinical assistant at the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital and at the Throat Hospital, Golden Square, and as medical inspector of schools and assistant medical officer of health at Merthyr Tydfil before being appointed school medical officer at Gillingham, Kent.
He took up a temporary commission in the R.A.M.C. on 1st November 1914, then entered the war in France on 14th December. On 26th August 1915, when the 1st Cavalry Field Ambulance was at Wormhoudt, Stephen sustained a seriously injury to his pelvis as a result of his horse falling and rolling onto him. He was sent to a hospital in Calais, where he died from his injuries. Stephen is also referred to as Stephen Barry WALSH. He was the son of Stephen and Nano Barry-Walsh of Kilmallock, Co. Limerick.
