Other Information:Albert was a regular in the RAMC when war was declared and had already seen active service in the Boer War. He entered the war in France on 18th August 1914 with the 5th Cavalry Field Ambulance. Albert continued to serve after the war, his service number changing to 7248483 in 1920. A newspaper article stated that Albert was a commandant with the Red Cross in Welling for several years and that in 1939 he volunteered but was told he was too old, so became a "gas instructor" to the ARP and Voluntary Fire Service. He was then amongst the first into the LDV/Home Guard and was also a Sergeant Instructor to the Army Cadet Corps. Then in 1942 he was accepted into the RAF for medical duties in the Air Force ans was an L/A/C with a Spitfire squadron at Hornchurch. Albert died in July 1944 in Farnborough Hospital, Kent, so unfortunately never saw ultimate victory. [Information kindly provided by Albert's family]
