Other Information:Samuel enlisted on 19th September 1907. He was 26 years and 1 month old; was a painter by trade; and was living in Liverpool at the time. He saw active service in South Africa from 1901 to 1902. On 19th September 1910 he was transferred to Army Reserve, but, was mobilized at the outbreak of war, entering the war in France on 13th January 1915. He received a gun shot wound to the head on 10th July 1917 whilst serving with the 1st Field Ambulance, then was discharged on 23rd November 1918 as no longer fit for war service. He was the son of Charlotte Johnston of 20 Salisbury Street, Liverpool.
