Albert had previously served with the Queen's in the South African Campaign. He entered the war in France on the 18th August 1914. [Listed as 'Owen' by CWGC] He was severely wounded when the unit was shelled on 21st May 1915 and died the same day. He was the son of William and Jane Matthews of North Kensington, London.
