Other Information:Arthur lived in Staines, He entered the war in France on the 12th September 1914. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty whilst in charge of bearers. On two occasions he led a party of stretcher bearers through a very heavy barrage to an extremely exposed position, and rescued men from an aid post in the front line. He was twice struck by splinters, but continued to do excellent and valuable work, displaying a splendid disregard of danger and remarkable leadership in managing a large party of men who were practically untrained to the work." Arthur received a SWB.
