Edward entered the war in France on 21st August 1914 with the 20th Field Ambulance. He was serving with the 19th Field Ambulance when he went into the field at Erquinghem for a rest, by sitting in the sun near the river, with 12278 t.WOII George Henry Male and 15430 Sjt John Pollock when a shell came over and fatally wounded them all.
