Other Information:William lived in Tredegar. He entered the war in France on the 21st August 1914. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as stretcher bearer during an action. He went to the assistance of three men who were buried, and, under severe shell fire, dug them out, dressed them, and assisted them to a relay post. Though wounded himself, he remained at duty for two days, setting a mist inspiring example of courage and determination to all. With two others he extinguished fire in an ammunition dump close to a dug out occupied by wounded, and got the wounded away safely. William received a SWB.
