Other Information:George had previously served in the Militia with the 3/Royal West Surrey (Queen�s) Regiment. He transferred into the R.A.M.C. on 18th July 1898. He was 18 years and 1 month old, and was a messenger by trade. He saw active service in South Africa in 1899 - 1902. On 31st October 1903 he was transferred to Army Reserve but he re-enlisted on 21st January 1910. He was mobilized on the outbreak of war - his service record stating he was posted to serve with the 4th Field Ambulance, however, this Medal Index Card states he entered the war in France on 19th August 1914 with the 2nd Field Ambulance. On 9th May 1915 he gained promotion to the rank of Corporal. On 9th June 1916 he was appointed acting Serjeant, with pay. He was discharge from the Army on 28th January 1919.
