Other Information:George enlisted on 4th November 1915. He was 31 years old, and was an Asylum attendant by trade. He embarked at Southampton on 19th June 1916, then disembarking at Rouen the next day, he entered the war in France on 20th June 1916 as a reinforcement. He was posted to join the 138th Field Ambulance, in the field, on the 28th.
On the 19th July 1916, George received a gun shot wound (shrapnel) to his right leg. He was evacuated to No 1 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, then to No 14 Stationary Hospital via No 1 Ambulance Train, arriving there the same day. He remained at the hospital until the 21st, when he was sent to England via hospital ship. The next day, George arrived at Birmingham War Hospital. He died there 26 days later, at 12.55 a.m., from septic pneumonia, and cardiac failure brought on as a result of his wound. George was the husband of Lily Beatrice Filby of 50 Martin Square, Abbotts Langley, Herts.
