Other Information:William was educated at Abel Street County Council School, Burnley. He enlisted on 27th October 1915. He was 19 years and 5 months old, was a fitters labour by trade - working as a Tramway employee, and was living at 12 Daneshouse Road, Burnley at the time. He was posted to Aldershot and did his training with No 7 Coy. Then on 16th April 1916 he was transferred to 'Y' Coy. William embarked at Southampton on 7th August 1916, then disembarking the next day at Rouen he entered the war in France of 8th August 1916. He was posted to serve with the 76th Field Ambulance, in the field, on the 14th August. On the 27th May 1918, he was reported as being wounded and missing. He died two days later of a gun shot wound to his buttock whilst a prisoner of war. William was the eldest son of Robert and Elizabeth Nutter (Daughter of William Henderson) of the same address as above.
