Other Information:Thomas’s occupation was a farm servant. He was 5 ft, 11 inches tall and a married man. Thomas was appointed by Durham County Constabulary on 1st June 1899 as PC 426, 3rd class constable. On the 4th June 1899 he was stationed at Jarrow and was promoted on the 1st October 1899 to a 2nd class PC. On the 3rd October 1900, Thomas resigned to join the army for South Africa, he then re-joined the Police Force on 11th February 1903 and was re-admitted as a 3rd class PC. He was stationed at Crook on the 2nd March 1903 and was promoted to a 2nd class PC on the 1st June 1903 and then to a 1st class PC on the 1st July 1904. On the 2nd September 1915, Thomas resigned to join HMF and enlisted with the RAMC. He served as Serjeant stretcher bearer, and was awarded the MM and two parchments for gallant conduct and devotion to duty on the field of battle. He was re-admitted into the police Force on the 15th January 1919 as 10 years, 1st class PC 426 and was stationed at Longnewton, a post he held until 8th August 1919 when he went to Stillington. On the 11th September 1923, Thomas has completed 22 years service. He retired on pay on the 1st October 1927 but was re-admitted as 1st Police reserve no 076 and stationed at Darlington.
