Other Information:Edward embarked at Southampton on 15th May 1916, then disembarking at Rouen the next day entered the war in France on 16th May 1916. He was posted to serve with the 141st Field Ambulance, joining them in the field on 25th May 1916. On 20th August 1916 he suffered a gas shell wound and was admitted on the 21st into the Corps Main Dressing Station, gassed. He following day, on 22nd, he was evacuated back to 36 Casualty Clearing Station, then onto No 11 Stationary Hospital via No 9 Ambulance Train. On 2nd September 1916 he was transferred to the Convalescent Depot in Rouen. On 11th October 1916 he rejoined the 141st Field Ambulance via Base Details. On 19th November 1916 he was admitted �sick� into the Corps Rest Station, where he rested until 23rd November when he was transferred to No 2 Main Dressing.Station. From there he was evacuated back to No 11 Stationary Hospital again, remaining there until he was transferred to the Convalescent Depot, Rouen on 4th December 1916. Ten days later, on 14th December 1916 he joined Base Details in Rouen, who posted him to serve with No 8 Stationary Hospital on 3rd January 1917. On 24th April 1918 he was appointed the rank of acting Lance Corporal with pay. He was then promoted to the rank of Corporal on 1st May 1918. After the war Edward left for England for demobilization on 30th January 1919, and was transferred to the Reserves, Class Z on 28th February 1919.
