Other Information:John enlisted on 27th February 1915. He was 38 years and 8 months old, a miner by trade, and was living in Kilburn, Derby at the time. He entered the war in France on 11th August 1915 with the 141st Field Ambulance. On 23rd July 1916, whilst serving with part of a team of bearers attached to No 2 Field Ambulance, he suffered multiple severe wounds to his face, along with his right hand, elbow and knee. He was evacuated back to No 7 Canadian General Hospital, then to the UK where he remained in hospital until 7th October 1916. He was then posted to No 8 Coy. On 15th August 1917 he was discharged from the army �no longer physically fit for war service�. He was the husband of Alice Wright of Denby Bottles, Derbyshire.
