Other Information:George lived in Manchester. He entered the war in France on the 9th November 1915. The citation for his Distinguished Conduct Medal reads "On the morning of the 11th September 1918, he was in charge of bearers in the Wervicq-Commines area. When the enemy opened a heavy and continuous gas bombardment, he at once proceeded to the area under bombardment and attended to casualties. While affecting the evacuation of the cases he was wounded, but continued to go from dugout to dugout attending to the gassed. He showed gallantry and devotion to duty". He was living at 237 Kingsway, Manchester when he died (Information on his birth and death kindly provided by Clare Barlow)
