Other Information:Harold enlisted on 16th October 1915. He was 19 years and 135 days old; was a Theatre Attendant by trade; and was living at 4 Arklow Villas, Ramsgate at the time. He embarked at Southampton on 6th March 1916 with the 134th Field Ambulance, then disembarked at Havre the next day, entering the war in France on 7th March 1916. On 3rd September 1916 he was wounded in action, suffering a 'GSW' to his shoulder. He was admitted into his unit, then evacuated back to No 13 General Hospital, arriving the following day he was immediately evacuated back to the UK via the hospital ship "St Andrew". On 5th September 1916 he was admitted into the 1st Southern General Hospital, Stourbridge Section, and received treatment there until 12th October 1916. After his recovery he embarked again at Southampton on 15th December 1916, for Havre, arriving the following day. On 18th December he joined Base Depot at Rouen who posted him to serve with the 141st Field Ambulance, joining them in the field on 26th December 1916. On 4th July 1919 he proceeded to No 1 Concentration Camp, Cologne for dispersal and was struck off the strength of the unit. He was the son of William Charles Ashton.
