Other Information:Sydney was educated at the Board School in Hollington, then became a Coach Painter by trade. He joined the R.A.M.C. on 12th October 1915 and was posted to “T” Coy. He was 18 years and 8 months at the time. On 3rd March 1916, he embarked at Southampton with 132nd Field Ambulance, then disembarking the next day at Havre, entered the war in France on 4th March 1916. Sydney received a gun shot wound to his spine (back and thigh) on 19th October 1916, causing paraplegia. He was evacuated to No 11 Casualty Clearing Station, then onto No 13 General Hospital via No 12 Ambulance Train. He returned to the UK on 26th October 1916. He died from his wounds in King George’s Hospital, Stamford, London. Sydney was the second son of James Walford and Rose (daughter of Hubert Huggett) Weller of 116 Old Lane, Hollington, St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex.
