Other Information:William enlisted on 6th October 1915. He was 19 years and 3 months old, and was living at 12 Alfred Street, Kettering, Northamptonshire at the time. He embarked at Southampton on 3rd March 1916 with the 132nd Field Ambulance. On 7th June 1916 he was admitted to hospital suffering with appendicitis, then evacuated back to No 7 Casualty Clearing Station. He rejoined his unit on 12th June 1916. On 4th October 1916 he was admitted again to the hospital of his unit ‘PUO’. He was evacuated back to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station, then No 2 Australian General Hospital in Boulogne, and onto England via the hospital ship “St Andrew” on 15th October 1916. He was admitted into the Suffolk Hospital at Bury St Edmund’s on the 15th October, then transferred to Hengrave Hall, Bury St Edmund’s on 8th November, remaining there until 7th December 1916. William remained in the UK until 27th January 1917, when he embarked again at Southampton for Rouen, arriving on the 29th he was subsequently posted to serve with the 141st Field Ambulance, joining them in the field on 12th February 1917.
On 5th November 1917 he was admitted to hospital ‘sick’, with an injury to his left knee, and was evacuated to No 63 Casualty Clearing Station. He was discharged to duty and rejoined this unit on 16th November 1917. On 18th October 1918 he was wounded by shell fire “G.S.W. Left Arm”. He died from his wounds the same day at No 47 Casualty Clearing Station.
