Other Information:Richard enlisted on 4th February 1915 into the 3rd Bn. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was 22 years and 8 weeks old, was a clerk by trade, and was living at 142 High Park Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne at the time. He transferred to the R.A.M.C. on 23rd May 1915. With the R.A.M.C., Richard entered the war in Egypt on 19th December 1915. He joined the 66th Field Ambulance in the field on the Balkans on 4th January 1916, but on the 16th was transferred to serve with the 32nd Field Ambulance, and again on the 18th was attached to the 85th Coy. Royal Engineers. He was admitted into No 21 Stationary Hospital in Salonika suffering with jaundice on 11th February 1916. His condition deteriorated and he died of pneumonia. He was the son of Richard H. and Elizabeth Gates.
