Other Information:Harry enlisted on 30th August 1915. He was 22 years and 21 days old; was a coal miner by trade, and was living at 32 Henry Road, Bell Green, Coventry at the time. He was posted to serve with the 100th Field Ambulance and remained with them throughout, being appointed acting Corporal with pay on 18th December 1916, and acting Serjeant on 4th June 1917. He entered the war in France on 18th November 1915. On 7th December 1916, whilst on parade, he received a letter of commendation for the Military Medal from the GOC 2nd Division. He was awarded the MM on 28th December 1916. On 17th March 1918 he received a gas shell wound, becoming seriously ill at No 3 General Hospital, Le Treport on the 23rd. By the 26th he was no longer seriously ill but was evacuated back to the UK and admitted into a military hospital in Leicester by the 30th. Harry reverted back to the rank of Private on 14th September 1918, and was transferred to Army Reserve on 9th November 1918. He received a Silver War Badge.
