Other Information:William was a member of the Officers Training Corps and graduated M.B., B.Ch, B.O.A. at Queen’s University, Belfast in 1915. He gained a commission, at the rank of Lieutenant, in the R.A.M.C. [Special Reserve] on 8th August 1914, and was mobilized on 7th February 1915, entering the war in France on 5th May, he served with the 28th Field Ambulance and No 13 General Hospital. He was promoted to Captain on 6th August 1915, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for services on 14th July 1916 at Longueval. William gained a permanent Regular Army Commission at the rank of Lieutenant on 1st January 1917 and was promoted to Captain on 7th August 1918.
